Rick rocks - plek'd!

Richard McPhail, guitarist for Tocotronic, used to run a music store. This american from the east coast who's now chosen Hamburg for his home has a musical style that shifts between melodic picking to controlled noise and feedback. He already became interested in plek when he was selling vintage guitars and boutique pedals in his store in Hamburg. Now Rick is in the process of getting all his guitars plekt and because he's pretty much in charge of Tocotronic's equipment, the rest are next.

Richard McPhail:

I read about plek in the Guitar and Bass and thought it's about time somebody finally sat down and took a look at how the guitar really works and how it can be optimized. Nowadays the technology has taken such a leap that you can simulate every amp and guitar and fine tune it all on the computer. But the fretboard is the first link in the whole chain and that's where you have to start. What your right and left hand does is the most important thing. This is why I found it so interesting that plek has finally done what was needed. To measure it all down and develop all these algorhythms. This is why I had to try it out. When I got it back it was like a different guitar. I realised it doesn't have to be that hard to play and what a fight it had been before.
